Young People = Peaceful Guardians

Young people become Peaceful Guardians by sharing and improving their life experiences with one another and as role models in their community.

the risks

37% of underrepresented youth report having no mentor in their lives. Without a mentor, these young people are less likely to attend class and less likely to graduate from high school. While they are more likely to have conflict with peers, parents, teachers and other authority figures.

the benefits

Research consistently shows that children with mentors are more likely to attend class, avoid conflict, experiment less with drugs and alcohol, graduate from high school, go on to college and, ultimately, hold positions of leadership themselves one day*. *Mentor.org

the future

Through Peaceful Guardians, 7th and 8th grade students interact with their community police officers as fellow humans—often for the first time. And are matched with a community mentor to help them chart pathways to a fulfilling future.

Through the Peaceful Guardians Project students learn:

  • Self-Awareness/Mindfulness

  • Effective Communication

  • Teamwork

  • Leadership Skills

As a Peaceful Guardian, I hope to be a role model to the younger kids in my family.
